Traffic jams are nightmares in
practically all the major cities in the world. It does not matter
whether you are driving for fun or it is the only way fro you to get
from one point to the next, the fact is you will not want to be held on
the road for hours on end. Research has shown that traffic jams have led
to many sanity related accidents and problems on roads. Here are the
top ten ways to escape this dreaded road menace.
1- Leave your house before or after rush hour
You
must be thinking to yourself that this is much easier said than done.
The absolute truth is that this is the best way to avoid traffic jams
anywhere in the world. The principle operates on the simple fact that if
you leave your house before everybody else does then you will be able
to avoid the traffic jam and get home earlier than everyone else.
2- Listen out for traffic updates on radio stations
You
will avoid the traffic jam if you know which roads have more traffic
and avoid those. When choosing a radio station to listen to, remember
not to go for those that play loud music and provide you with
information you probably don’t even need to know.
3- Ensure that you are comfortable
Whether
you are driving or using the bus to work, you should ensure that you
are comfortable at all times. This is especially so if you have to drive
a long distance to work. Be sure to sit properly so as not to strain
your back.
4- Get a GPS with live traffic update
A
GPS with traffic updates will keep you informed concerning what roads
to use and which ones to avoid. It will also give you the peace of mind
knowing that whatever happens, you will not lose your way.
5- Listen to some soothing music
No
one likes to go sit for hours in traffic. The last thing you want is
some loud hard core music banging in the background so look for some
soft relaxing music that will help soothe your mind, body and soul.
6- Use other alternative modes of transportation
You
may consider a different means of transport if you want to escape
traffic. One such a mode would be to leave your private car at home and
use public means instead. This may be difficult especially if you own a
luxurious car but would definitely cut down on your commuting time and
even save you some time.
7- Get a two wheel vehicle instead
If
you live in a country where it is legal to ride a motorcycle, a scooter
or a bicycle then you may want to get yourself one of these as you will
travel through the lanes and get to your destination faster than the
others.
8- Do not follow the cars in front of you too closely
Following
the car in front of you very closely or talking on your cell phone
while driving will increase your chances of getting involved in an
accident while on the road. This could cause you to stay on the road
longer and even be the cause of the next huge traffic.
9- Keep within the speed limits
The
natural thing to do the moment traffic opens up for many drivers id to
speed up. Many motorists do not realize that this short term solution
normally ends up costing a lot in terms of fuel and car maintenance.
10- Work From home whenever you can
While
many employees do not normally have the luxury of choosing where to
work from, try and talk to your employer to see whether you could work
from home as this will save you a lot of time wasted while in traffic.
