Insecurity is a major concern for
many governments across the globe. Before you decide to settle in a
particular city, you may want to find out the state of security in that
city. While there is not a single city in the world that is totally
crime free, there are those cities that have been known to be more
insecure than the rest. Here is a list of the top ten most insecure and
dangerous cities in the world in 2011, you may find it useful
especially if you are planning to move to a particular city with your
family.
1- Bogotá, Colombia
While it
is true that the state of security has improved in Colombia, insecurity
still remains a concern mainly due to the narco terrorists groups that
continue to terrorize many rural areas as well as its capital city,
Bogotá. It is not uncommon for car bombs exploding in the middle of the
city. Citizens continue to suffer in the hands of kidnappers making
it a very dangerous city to live in.
2- Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Known
as the most violent place in the whole world, this city has had a very
high rate of murder case as well as related to drugs. Ironically, it
is also one of the fastest growing cities in the whole world. There is a
constant fear walking on the streets as it is common to be hit by a
stray bullet or for women to fall victim of sexual harassment or even
homicide.
3- St. Louis, Missouri
St
Louis has over the years ranked at the top of the Federal British
Investigators list among the cities that have the highest cases of rape,
robbery and bombings. It has been constantly voted the most dangerous
city in the whole of America.
4- Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Port-au-Prince
is the capital city of Haiti and the largest. Despite all the changes
that have been made in the governance of this city, it still remains
very violent and dangerous. The capital and many parts of Haiti have no
formal government leaving them in the hands of gangs.
5- Mogadishu, Somalia
Murder,
kidnapping, banditry and illegal roadblocks are the order of the day in
Mogadishu. There are constant threats especially to American citizens
living in this city as well as other foreigners.
6- Caracas, Venezuela
The
rate of murder in Caracas is known to be one of the highest in the
world. Drug trafficking and sexual violence continues to spread fear in
the city making it a very dangerous place to live in.
7- Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Throughout
this vast city, there is a huge risk of violent crimes like gunshots
and robbery. You are advised not to walk around unguarded as vehicles
are constantly being stoned and women are raped all the time.
8- Grozny, Chechnya, Russia
Also
believed to be the most destroyed city in the world, there is very
little authority left here if any. There is constant political murder
and criminal violence. Several buildings have been destroyed and many
residents live without electricity or water.
9- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
You
are advised not to carry any valuables if you plan on traveling to
this city any time soon there is rampant violence generally throughout
the Dominican republic not just against foreigners but locals as well.
10- Karachi, Pakistan
This
very scenic city remains one of the most dangerous in the world. It is
common to see rallies and demonstrations in the streets of Karachi.
Extortion, murders, street-crime, forging currency and fraud are some of
the most common crimes in Pakistan making it a very dangerous place to
visit.
